Morgan- Rekofa wins the innvovation price 2006

Morgan- Rekofa wins the innvovation price 2006 of Rhineland-Palatine

Revolution in Data Transfer. Optical Rotary Coupler basing on Glass Fibre with 450 times improved light attenuation.

The Morgan-Rekofa GmbH in Antweiler/Eifel has developed and  – together with the RheinAhrCampus Remagen – brought a new optical rotary coupler with extraordinary low attenuation for passing laser light to production maturity.  The light conducting fibres used in this product allow a high data transfer rate for example for TV-pictures of highest resolution and other applications of high data requirements.

Everywhere, where high data transfer rates together with a good intereference resistance are required, this new development is of a big advantage. In comparison with the optical rotary couplers found already in the market, the light attenuation has been improved by the factor 450 and the spectral transfer range has been extended to several 100 nanometers.

By this, we are stepping into a wide area of applications: beginning with use in the printing and packing industry, in production robots in the automotive industry, in radar systems and optical-medical appliances, in military technology and not ending with laser optical sensors, this means everywhere where data transfer rates together with the corresponding interference resistance are demanded.

The development of the rotary coupler with optical micro system technology was lead within only 12 months by Prof. Dr. Georg Ankerhold together with several students of the study course “Optics and Lasertechnology” at the RheinAhrCampus Remagen in cooperation with the Morgan Rekofa GmbH in Antweiler/Eifel to production maturity. At Morgan-Rekofa, the managing director Klaus Hoffmann and the R&D director Dr. Karel van Loon were responsible. The successful cooperation of the company and the university finalised in a succesful patent application. Further, the RheinAhrCampus in Remagen and the Morgan-Rekofa GmbH in Antweiler are the laureates of this year’s “Innovationspreis Rheinland-Pfalz 2006” (the innovation award of the state of Rhineland-Palatine) for this product.

The Ministry for Economy, Traffic, Agriculture and Viticulture of Rhineland-Palatine honours each year especially innovative companies and reasearch institutions in acknowledgement of ther achievements and their efforts for forward looking products in the economy of the state. The price which is endowed with 40.000 Euro shall highlight the special importance of technical development of products, processes and services or new concepts, which have been introduced for less than 3 years on the German market or are shortly before market introduction.

Morgan-Rekofa in Antweiler has 100 employees. In May 2006, the worlwide operating Morgan Crucible group with their headquarter in England has established their worldwide operating Center of Excellence for Rotary Transfer Systems in Antweiler. Rotary Transfer Systems as slip rings our rotary couplers are always required, when for example current, signals, data media as air, water or oil cannot be transferred by cable or hose because of turning components.
