Ship propulsion systems
The engines used in large ships are often not powerful enough to permit tight turns in ports under their own power. Azipod units are consquently fitted. These are small drives, generally on the sides of the ships, that can run indefinitel, thanks to our products. A slip ring transmitter is mounted above the azipod drives and transmits the current to the engines, in spite of the turn. The result is increased manoeuvrability. The ships can turn on their own axes in port without needing tugs.
Use of the slip ring transmission systems in
- Ships' screws (e.g. Queen Mary 2)
